cooking magazine gift

Have you started thinking about holiday gifts yet?  I’m always on the lookout for gift ideas, especially as the holiday season approaches.   Here’s an idea for a family gift that will encourage learning and healthful eating!  Send a gift subscription to ChopChop Magazine!

ChopChop is the fun cooking magazine for families, inspiring and teaching kids to cook and eat real food with their families.  Endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics, it was named publication of the year by the James Beard Foundation and is a two-time winner of the Parent’s Choice Awards.

ChopChop’s vision is to reverse and prevent childhood obesity and hunger.  They believe in the simple values of cooking together as family and sharing healthy, delicious meals.  They don’t do calorie counts or post nutrition content, but everything in the magazine is reviewed and approved by their medical and nutrition advisors.

As a member of the Cabot Cheese Board, I’m  hosting a giveaway for a one year subscription to the magazine and a gift box of wonderful Cabot Cheese.   Keep reading or scroll to the bottom of this post to enter.

Every family is invited to join the ChopChop Cooking Club,  pledging to cook dinner together once a month for 6 months.  Each month ChopChop  chooses one good basic recipe that they think is essential for kids and families to learn, as well as skills such as grating, measuring, boiling, simmering, blending, and chopping.

How to Join ChopChop Cooking Club

All beginner cooks including kids 5-12 and their parents, plus any adults newly learning to cook are eligible to join.   Sign up at www.chopchopcookingclub.org and join for free!  Once registered, members receive their first recipe challenge.   Each recipe will include the step-by-step instructions, basic cooking skills, fun food facts, family discussion prompts, and shopping tips for the key ingredients.  There is also information about turning the recipe into a balanced meal.

Members can log into their profile page and post a picture of the completed dish and earn virtual badges for completing the challenge.  New challenges are issued at the start of each month.  If members master the original recipe and want additional challenge, there will be variations and more difficult recipes to test their kitchen skills.   Cooking Club members will be entered to win prizes after completing all six challenges, and will also receive a certificate of completion.

quesadilla

One of the first things my children learned to cook on their own was quesadillas.  We always had flour tortillas and cheese in the fridge!  Even the youngest could make a quesadilla using the microwave,  but they definitely taste better when cooked on top of the stove (with adult supervision!)

gift box

You can win a subscription to ChopChop Magazine and a gift box of Cabot Cheeses!  Just leave a comment about children learning to cook.  How did you learn to cook?  Did you learn from your grandmother, or mom?  How about your own children?  Did they help with family dinners?  Are you teaching your children or grandchildren to cook now?  What are some of your favorite recipes that children can learn?
