Our family farm was featured yesterday on the Fox 5 San Diego news broadcast. Since then we’ve been filling orders for fruit from our family farm, as well as the variety boxes that include vegetables from a local produce supplier. As Farmer Ben says, “It’s love in box.”
We have had so much rain in the last several weeks! Yesterday we even had hail! I thought you might enjoy seeing what a rain storm in blooming avocado trees looks like, and some highlights of the week. Continue Reading →
With the “stay at home” order here in San Diego county, we’ve been concerned about folks who cannot get out to the grocery store for fresh produce. We have figured out a great way to ship some fresh fruit and veggies that come directly from our farm and from a local produce distributer. The produce has been minimally handled, placed in a box, and mailed directly to you. The contents of these Variety Boxes will vary, but the foods will all be great!
Tangerines and Avocados
We are still harvesting our Tango mandarin oranges and Fuerte avocados, plus we’re also shipping Hass avocados. With Easter coming up, lots of folks want to send gifts to family and friends. We promise to work as long as it takes to get these out to everyone who needs them. The tangerines ( or mandarin oranges…same fruit, different name) are so sweet, seedless and easy to peel. The avocados are picked on the day they are shipped, so be sure to allow for a week or more before they soften.
Bacon, Ham, and Sausage
If you live in California, you can order some amazing bacon, ham, sausages, and jerky from a wonderful smokehouse in Bishop, Ca. We used to stop by Mahogany Smoked Meats years ago when we would drive up to Mammoth Lakes. In the last several years we have been ordering their amazing double smoked bacon here at home. This year Continue Reading →
We are all being urged to stay at home. If avocados and other fresh produce is something you crave, there are smart ways to get it. Farmers are now shipping boxes of fresh produce directly to the people who need it. Produce suppliers for restaurants and food service are opening their doors to the public. Stock up on quantities of good fresh food and then stay home. If you can’t eat it all, share it with your neighbors and family.
Tango Mandarin Oranges
These tangerines (or mandarin oranges) are easy to peel, seedless, and very sweet. They are just getting sweeter right now, and will be available for several months. We’re shipping them, along with fresh avocados from our farm. Order some at California Avocados Direct, our family farm.
Fuerte avocado trees are tall — use a ladder!
Fuerte Avocados Almost Gone
We’re picking the last of the Fuerte avocados for this season, but you can still order them right now. The Hass avocados will still be available after the Fuertes are finished.
Our son stopped by the local produce supplier who usually takes care of the restaurants in the area. They are open to the public right now, and had quantities of good fresh produce. Continue Reading →
We have figured out how to offer a box of avocados at a more reasonable price for local delivery. If you live in Fresno or south of Fresno, you can get 10 lbs of fresh avocados from our farm for $24.95 plus $10 shipping. That’s $1.45 per avocado! We hope this will help many of you get the avocados you need during this time when we are all staying home. Info: https://www.californiaavocadosdirect.com/prod…/product.aspx…
Avocado Gifts
We are still shipping our regular boxes of 6, 12, or 24 avocados all over the USA! Those go via USPS flat rate. We have monthly subscriptions Continue Reading →
We’re helping out the Easter Bunny this year by shipping gift boxes of avocados to families all over the USA. If you order this week, the avocados will be picked, placed into a box, and sent to your family and friends. It takes about a week for the fresh fruit to being softening, so there should be fresh avocados ready to eat by Easter and during the days following Easter.
Avocados Picked Daily and Shipped to Your Home
Here is a box of 6 avocados that we shipped to Vermont last week. It only took a few days and they were sitting on a kitchen counter in Barre, Vermont! We pick them from the tree, place them in the box, deliver them to the post office, and they arrive on your doorstep a few days later. What could be fresher than that? No trip to the grocery store is necessary.
A Big Bowl of Avocados on Your Table
Our niece and her husband ordered a box of avocados last week and put them into a beautiful bowl. So cheerful! These are Fuerte avocados (say “Foo-Air-Tay”) — a winter variety with thinner skins and shaped like pears.
The skins of Fuerte avocados can be peeled right off when they’re ready to eat! They have a really full flavor…my favorites! We will have these for another two weeks, and then the season will be finished. Don’t worry though, because the bumpy skinned Hass avocados that you love will still be available for months to come.
Baby Bok Choy and Avocado Deviled Eggs
Here’s a recipe for some deviled eggs that are perfect for Easter or anytime! The ingredients are good for you, and they make a great treat!
